6 Alternatives to Renting a Skip Bin

Making a long distance home or office relocation and can’t take everything with you? Or maybe you’re the proud new owner of a foreclosed home and have lots of long days spent cleaning and renovating ahead of you. Either way, your first thought may be to rent a skip bin and trash everything, but you might want to consider skip bin alternative options. Renting a dumpster can be costly since you pay for both the dumpster and weight of your trashed items. Also, items such as hazardous waste require more than just a dumpster service to remove. Before choosing to rent a dumpster for your heavy duty junk removal, consider these six alternative methods.

Contact a Local Thrift Store

For small items you are ready to part with, simply drop them off at any thrift store near you. Many stores, such as Goodwill, can come haul away large items like household furniture that you no longer wish to keep. Contact your local store to schedule a time for your furniture to be taken away.

Recycle When Possible

Most electronics can be recycled as long as they are in fair condition. Drop them off at any recycling center, or electronic stores such as Best Buy. If you are recycling a large item like a tv, Best Buy can come to your home and pick it up. You will have to pay a slight fee for this service, but at least your electronics can still be put to good use.

Sell Your Stuff

If you have items that are in great condition and you think still have value, consider selling them. There are endless online sites and apps where you can easily post your item and the asking price. Then buyers can either come pick up their purchase, or you can send it off. Even large items such as furniture can be sold if you do not wish to donate or trash it.

Rent a Storage Unit

If you aren’t ready to trash your items but can’t quite commit to keeping them, you’re in luck. You can rent out a storage unit on a monthly basis, and keep your items safe until you need them again – or are ready to say goodbye for good. Storage units come in various sizes, so you can choose the one that best fits your needs. Most are also climate controlled, so you won’t have to worry about any damages being made.

Utilize a Rubbish Removal Service

One man’s trash may be another man’s treasure, but sometimes trash is just trash. Once you’ve donated or recycled your items and are left with purely junk, you may want to hire a rubbish removal service. That way you aren’t responsible for physically hauling everything away, and won’t have to worry about the costs of a dumpster rental increasing the more you clear out your unwanted items.

Bring in the Bagster

For items that are too big to trash, but too small for a dumpster, bring in the Bagster. Bagster is a heavy-duty waste management bag – essentially a smaller version of a dumpster. These bags can be found at any home improvement store or purchased online.

Try out these dumpster renting alternatives on your next big cleaning spree.
