Getting high on the mountains seems legit if the mountains belong to the Parvati Valley in Himachal Pradesh. It's not hard to imagine the agony which other states might feel knowing what Himachal holds. There are innumerable gems hiding, and some that have been are too beautiful to be true. In all of these, there is one place, too famous to be true, you have to be there to believe it.
Kasol, for some it is the start of an amazing trek journey, for some, it is an offbeat destination where they come to let themselves be and for others, it is a place where you take nature in and get worries out.
So if you are willing to do anything of the above, KASOL seems to be the perfect destination, pick up your backpacks and get onboard.
Day 1: Kasol-Chalaal
Upon reaching Kasol and a bit of walking, reach your campsite. Enjoy the greener and a happier space by the riverside. Take some rest and have your fill of breakfast. Once you are up and ready, it will be time to explore the ‘Little Amsterdam’ while making our way to Chalal. While walk through the lanes of Kasol, you will notice many Israeli cafes and shops to buy your souvenirs from. Gradually, we will walk towards, what is known as Trance and Psychedelic party village- Chalaal. This little village is tucked in the conifer dense forest. The walk doesn’t take more than 2 hours hyphenated with breaks. One can sit at the end of the village admiring the beauty of fiercely flowing Parvati river.
Later in the evening, we will come back to the camping site; dance the night away around bonfire while having taste-buds teasing dinner.
Day 2: Kasol - Tosh
On this day,wake up to beautiful sunrise. Take this day as it comes and don’t forget to feel the lovely light feeling that must be lingering in your mind. We will get ready for your trek to Tosh- the last village in the valley. The drive from Kasol to Tosh parking stand is around an hour’s drive and the last becomes a wee bit treacherous. Upon reaching, we will start our trek- one of the most beautiful scenic routes that you will experience. This little hamlet, constantly, dwarfed by intimidating mountains is at the heart of Parvati Hydel Project. It's a goat track which traverses the hill with gradual inclines and declines. Upon reaching waterfalls, The only thing you expect to do here is sit,relax and unwind your senses. Listen to the beautiful sound of gushing water, and the night ends with fun and laughter.Please do not litter and also be mindful of their culture and heritage and you will always want to come back.
Day 3: Tosh - Kasol
If you want to get teleported to a wonderland- make a point to wake up early and enjoy the magnanimous rising sun. Get ready and it will be time to return back to Kasol. Savour every view while going back. Upon reaching Kasol, it will be time to bid adieu with a promise to meet again!
How to reach Kasol?
No matter where you live in the whole country, excluding Himachal Pradesh itself, New Delhi seems to be the perfect starting point. From Delhi, there are luxury buses plying towards Kasol everyday which also include state-run transport, which drops you at Bhuntar and from there onwards you can take local taxis up to Kasol at a decent fare.
If you are someone who likes riding or driving, there are many self-drive and self-ride options available that give you the flexibility to take the route you wish and take detours on will.
The whole route follows amazing scenery, lush green mountains and twisty roads that set you in the right mood for the upcoming adventure.
Best time to visit Kasol?
To be frank, there is no particular time to visit a place like Kasol but Kasol is at its best from June to October, the weather is pleasant and temperature holds between 15 - 22 degrees. This is the right time to see the wild side of Kasol and take that trek you always wanted to as the days are longer and it makes things a bit easier.
In case, you the kind that enjoys chilling nights, October-February Kasol may seem a perfect time but it comes with a warning, nights are too cold and there is a possibility of roads getting blocked due to frequent snowfall and freezing cold.
Things to do in Kasol?
Kasol is an amazing destination for backpackers. It has everything you can ask for. If you love food, Kasol will make you go crazy. The cafe’s around here have somehow mastered the art of world cuisine, they can offer the world on a plate, from Israeli food to English breakfast, they have everything.
If you are interested in the green stuff, you are in heaven, in the abundance of greenery, it still stands out, you see it being planted on the roadside or being sold by a nomad. It is everywhere. The air has the essence of it and no matter who you are, you just take it in, however, it may be.
Now comes the highlight, the trek to Kheerganga, the moment this trek starts to the point where it ends, nature seems to be in its best shape, big waterfalls, flat grasslands, temples out of nowhere, apple plantations and small villages. There is everything. The trails up to Kheerganga are vertical at times but it is all worth it. You have to do it to believe it.
Why is it so famous among backpackers?
It is not a place you visit with family, it's just something you do alone or with friends. In that case, all you need is a backpack, some clothes and the zeal to scale the trail. It has amazing food, you end up meeting people from all around the globe. Sleeping in tents on top of the world and watching stars graze upon you from miles above. It is not a place you need to plan months in advance for, no special equipment are needed. A long weekend is in sight or you need change, get off. Rent a bike, drive a car or just board a bus, it is never too far. All you need is some cash, a pair of shoes, few clothes and yourself. Kasol Itinerary is done, no wonder it is the backpacker destination.
