The weekend program is an light adventure and eco trip in which we cover most of the important destinations in Wayanad. We will be visiting Kanthanpara Waterfalls, the prehistoric Edakkal caves, trekking through the beautiful Kuruva Islands and spotting wildlife at Tholpetty Wildlife Sanctuary. The drive and the views of the hills, plantation and countryside are no less exciting.
Leave from Bangalore at 10 p.m.
Arrive Wayanad in the morning and check into cottages. After breakfast go for a half day trek in and around the Kuruva Islands exploring the streams and mangroves in this cluster of river islands. Play in the water, walk along the streams and paddy fields and cross the river on a small bamboo raft. After an authentic Kerala lunch we head to Tholpetty Wildlife Sanctuary. We go on a jeep safari for a 1 hour into the core of the sanctuary to spot elephants, bison, spotted deer, sambar deer, peacocks, wild dogs and monkeys and if you are lucky you might spot a leopard or a tiger. Back to our cottage stay by late evening.
After breakfast check out of cottage and leave for Kanthanpara waterfalls. This less visited falls is accessed by a short walk through the forests. Take a shower under the falls and swim in the pool under it. Later after lunch we stop by at a tea garden before heading to Edakkal caves (prehistoric caves in middle of hill with cave inscriptions inside). Late afternoon leave from Wayanad and reach Bangalore by 10 p.m.
