The scenic lake has significant historical and religious narrations attached to its history that make it even more fascinating. According to the locals, there is an association of the Lake to Sage Bhrig since the pious soul is known to have performed strong meditation and rituals on the banks of the lake hundreds of years ago. Even the locals believe that many Gods of the Kullu valley have dipped their feet in the holy waters of the lake making it sacred for their devotees. The location of Bhrigu Lake is about 6km from Gulaba which is a picturesque village about 22 kms from Manali.

It's increasingly growing at one of the more popular getting expeditions amongst the youth and for good reason. The ideal time visit the lake is before the month of June and after August since this is the monsoon time and there remains the probability of landslides in the region. An interesting fact here is that through half of the year, the water in the lake freezes and the temperature can drop to lower than 10-15C in the daytime and around 0 to -7C at night. This provides an opportunity for the trekkers to experience the sight of snow, while summers.

The lake is blessed with an unparallel view of Seven Sister Peaks, Deo Tibba and Hanuman Tibba, the outstretched Pir Panjal ranges, a rich line of oak and cedar forests, and marvellous green lush meadows. The enthralling carpeted alpine flooring or the gushing streams along the meandering trails make the trekking experience overwhelming and truly serene. If you are in luck, there are also very good chances of sighting the Himalayan Monal, Snow Cocks and the beautiful pheasants.

Bhrigu Lake Trek From Delhi Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: From Manali Drive to Gulaba and Trek to Gulaba Meadows Camp

The journey towards Bhrigu Lake begins from Manali, through the Rohtang Pass road to a small, cosy nook of a village called Gulaba. The entire journey advances through richly abundant pine forests, scenic views of the snow covered Himalayan summits and lush green pastures of grass. It is in these pastures that the first trek will commence, taking around 1.5hrs to reach the first camp. The hills open up themselves to welcome trekkers through the deep dark canopies of trees and the luscious virility of nature. It will be a comparatively breezier trek till the camp.

Day 2: Gulaba to Rola Kholi

Starting at an altitude of 12,500 ft. we’ll be spanning 6 km in 3-4 hours. It’s a steep walk ascending from here on so you need to be equipped with 2 litres of water and some snack to unwind and keep yourselves properly fuelled between the testing laps.

The first few miles fly by walking under the shaded canopy of forest covers and the rustling peace of the conifers hanging above. These pastures of land are rich in local flora and spot oaks, cedar and birches will easily be spotted.

As we advance in time, the trekkers slowly start leaving the forests’ cover behind and enter the grazing pastures which belong to local shepherds and span across green meadows spread far and wide. There are all indications of a humble hilly village life like mud huts, grazing cattle and camp poles for frequent travellers. From this distance, the peak of Hanuman Tibba can be spotted sharply rising and just below, the Seven Sisters Peaks become visible. Below all these magnanimous sites, lies the Beas Kund valley.

When the path starts getting narrower and steeper just before entering the grasslands of Rola Kholi, about 15 to 20 minutes farther from reaching the campsite, we pass two small streams which will serve as our water sources. The camp will be set up near chor nallah at the Rola Kholi campsite, under a wondrous camopy of stars.

Day 3: Rola Kholi to Bhrigu Lake back to Rola Kholi

From here on, the journey take a turn towards landscapes and stony paths, filled with captivating and refreshing scenic views and experiences. Starting at the wake of dawn, the journey till the lake requires approximately 7-8 hours along a stone laden, steep path. Post June, this stretch from after Rola Kholi can be expected to be covered in snow. Towards the last lap of the truck, it is advisable to go slow and cautiously as the path is ridden with slippery boulders. As soon as reaching the two ridges on the last boulder lap, the alpine lake becomes vividly visible in the distance. The surrounding belts provide a view of the Solang valley, lying peacefully across the distance, as well as an overview looking at the peaks of Pir Panjal and Dhauladhar range.

Day 4: Rola Kholi to Gulaba drive to Manali

Beginning at dawn, the journey back commences through the same trekking paths that we came from, to Gulaba, from where we drive back to Manali.
