Roads are well maintained in Ladakh but the meaning of well-maintained on such a high altitude mountain pass is very different. There are lots of pot holes and at different places the roads are too narrow. The average speed at which you drive is 20-30 kmph max. And not to mention the low level of oxygen at the altitude of 14000 feet. In many areas ascent are very steep where even RE also becomes a low performer and may not respond to the accelerator.
