The Kareri Lake trail goes through forest of Oak, Pine and Rhododendron. Kareri lake trek is a heavenly experience for any trekker. The lakesite also serves as base camp for Minkiani and Bleni Pass Trek. Towering Dhauladhar peaks act as guardians for this lake. The trek starts from the Kareri village which is approx. 27 kms from Dharamshala. It is a quaint beautiful village & perfect destination.

Kareri Lake near Dharamshala, Himachal Pradesh at an altitude of 3000m is a shallow fresh water lake. It lies in the Dhauladhar Range of Himalayas. Dhauladars act as a water source for this lake owing to melting of snow. Kareri lake hiking. The temperature of Kareri lake in winter goes below freezing point to -5 degree centigrade and in spring generally lies around 5-10 degrees in night.
Kareri lake Trek
The trail till Kareri Lake is through forest of Oak, Pine and Rhododendron trees. The trek is a paradise for a first time trekker. Area around lake also serves as base camp for Minkiani and Bleni Pass. Towering mountains of Dhauladhar Range act as guardians for this lake. The trek starts from the Kareri village which is 27 kms from Dharamshala. It is a quaint beautiful village. Kareri village is connected to Dharamshala through a motorable road, though the road condition is average to poor. Groh, Chadi and Ghera are the villages on the way from Dharamshala to Kareri village.
A clear day at Kareri village provides a vivid view of Indrahara Pass and Moon Peak which is highest peak of Dhauladhar Range.
Day 1: Mcleodganj to kareri village
Today you reach to Mcleodganj around 9 am in the morning and transferred to the guest house. after quick round of tea and refreshment, we will meet with our guide for the kareri lake trek. There will be a small round of instructions regarding dos and don'ts of the trek. next we start our trek to kareri village. We reach kareri lake till evening and set up our camp for the day. Our first day of kareri lake trek ends here with a bonfire and sumptuous dinner.
Day 2: Kareri village to Riyoti camp
2nd day we start our trek for Riyoti camp. The trek from kareri village o Riyoti is an easy to moderate trek where you will find some decently steep routes sometimes. The entire trek will take 4-5 hours. We will setup our camp by the beautiful stream which rises from the Kareri lake
Day 3: Climb to kareri lake
Today we will reach kareri lake. We start from Riyoti and reach kareri lake by afternoon. Kareri lake is a beautiful himalayan lake which is originated from melting snow of Dhauladhar range of Himalaya. kareri lake is situated at the base of famous Minakini pass
Day 4: Kareri lake to Kareri village to Mcleodganj
It is the last day of the beautiful kareri lake trek. We start our return journey early in the morning and descend to Mcleodganj by the afternoon. The trek length is approx 12 km and will take 4-5 hours to complete.
Can people join from Mcleodganj?
Mcleodganj is the starting point of of this trek. So you need to reach Mcleodganj where the trek team will meet you. Or you can report directly to the guest house for kareri lake trek which is just 1 km away from Mcleodganj
My bus will reach at Dharamshala at 8 AM or later in the morning? Can I join as starting time stated as 6 AM from Dharamshala?
We request you to reach Mcleodganj by 9 am in the morning. Because earlier we start for the Kareri village it will be good as we will have more time to spend in that picturesque, quint village
What kind of food will you provide (in Lunch and Dinner)?
We provide healthy and hygienic vegetarian food to boost the energy lost while trekking. Food in lunch and dinner includes Rice, Roti, Rajma/Dal, Dry Veg and sweet dish.
Consumption of Alcohol or Tobacco should be avoided.
What will be the maximum team size and how many guides & porters will be there?
Maximum group size would be 25 excluding trek lead, guides
Will the option be available of porters carrying my bag so that I can trek without my bag?
Yes. you can pay extra to the porters on spot on actual basis to carry your bag
What about washroom? Do you carry separate toilet tents?
Yes it would be safe. For the convenience of our clients, we do pitch toilet tents separately for trekkers near our campsite.
Tents are Twin sharing or Triple sharing?
we have wide tents that can accommodate 2 people comfortably along with rucksacks. It would be on twin sharing basis generally
Sleeping bags will be provided?
Yes, we would be providing sleeping bags. The quality of sleeping bags are good
