About Satopanth Tal Trek

Satopanth Taal -The Glacial Lake which is around 25kms from Badrinath, could be reached after an arduous trek crossing Lakshmiban and Chakratirtha. Natural Caves along the path are used as the night shelter. Around Badrinath places like Lakshmiban and Chakratirtha are said to be of high mythological value. Traversing the satopanth glacier and hours of hard trekking on the treacherous moraine is required to reach the lake. The first thing that strikes you is the strange ethereal ambience of the lake, Calm and Soothing The perfectly triangle shaped lake is at the base of the snow crested Chaukhamba 1 peak. Satopanth tal trek is just for hardcore trekkers indeed!

Tour Itinerary

Day 01: Travel by road from Joshimath to Mana and trek to Chamatoli (7 Hours, overnight stay in tents)
Day 02: Trek from Chamatoli to Sahastradhara camp. (6 Hours, Overnight stay in tents).
Day 03: Trek from Sahastradhara to Satopanth Tal. (8 Hours, Overnight stay in tents)
Day 04: Trek to Swargarohini base camp to get a view of Chaukhamba and return to Satopanthtal camp. (8 hours, Overnight stay in tents)
Day 05: Trek from Satopanth Tal to Sahastradhara. (via Chakrateerth, 8 Hours, Overnight stay in tents)
Day 06: Trek from Sahastradhara to Chamatoli via Lakshimivan (Overnight stay in tent, 8 hours)
Day 07: Trek from Chamatoli to Badrinath (6 hours). (Overnight stay in Badrinath)

How to Reach

There is an overnight train from Delhi to Haridwar. The vehicle will pick you up from Haridwar train station and transport you to Joshimath. The vehicle can typically accommodate a max of 10 passengers. However, it is recommended that 5-7 folks travel in 1 vehicle for comfort. The distance from Haridwar to Joshimath is approximately 270 KMs. Typically, the participants leave early in the morning from Haridwar and reach Joshimath by evening. While returning, since the trek ends at Badrinath, the operator will provide a vehicle (Sumo) to take you to Haridwar. A typical Sumo costs approximately Rs 4,000/- each way. The cost is to be shared by the members in the vehicle and directly to be paid to the driver. The distance from Badrinath to Haridwar is approximately 320 KMs. Typically, the participants leave early in the morning from Badrinath and reach Haridwar by evening.
